For BCCT Standard # 6 I wrote a language arts matrix for my maternelle class. The matrix is themed around a very catchy series of books that incorporates plenty of repetition that is useful for learning a new language. These books that captured my students introduced new French words, colours, shapes, math and singing a tune.

Self-Reflection
I use Vancouver Island University's wonderful template to create a thoughtful and thorough matrix. The matrix allows me to enter the classroom prepared knowing my goals, destinations, and assessment strategies. The matrix allows me to make sure every aspect of my teaching responsibilities are covered. My matrix are a way to make sure I have understood the relevant curricula I am teaching.
Context of Outcomes
Making this matrix taught me the value of being prepared and the importance of thoroughly researching the subject area before I start teaching. It was a treat to see how easily the students attempted and succeeded in their new found French language skills.

Self-reflection and context of outcomes
Teaching students to speak
in French is being created in an unnatural environment. We live in an
English part of British Columbia. I have found books in French that
will appeal to my audience. These books are amusing for students,
repetitive and engaging. With careful thought of selection, I am
choosing books that will teach students French without them being
aware of learning. Students are involved in the story and being
entertained while the repetition is teaching new French vocabulary.
This is a wonderful manner to teach relevant curricula for standard
six.
