Standard 2
BCCT Standard #2
Educators are role models who act ethically and honestly.
Educators act with integrity, maintaining the dignity and credibility of the profession. They understand that their individual conduct contributes to the perception of the profession as a whole. Educators are accountable for their conduct while on duty, as well as off duty, where that conduct has an effect on the education system. Educators have an understanding of the education system in BC and the law as it relates to their duties.
ARTIFACT
For BCCT standard #2 I used Toondoo for an artifact to emphasize the importance of professionalism both inside and outside of a school setting.

Self-Reflection
Toondoo is a new teaching tool for me to use in the classroom to make riddles, to create cartoons, and to enhance learning. Toondoo is an uncomplicated tool to use by students to introduce a positive use for the internet.
Context of Outcomes
As a teacher and a person, this standard exemplifies how I want to be as a citizen to help make this world a better place. I want to act in the best interest for all and use proper behaviour and positive communication at all times. No matter where I am or what the circumstances, I am a teacher.
Artifact and self-reflection
This glass of wine represents an evening out with some friends. One friend is a student presently graduating as a registered nurse. During the evening, when I was too tired to join in with drinks, I listened as the conversation evolved. The student started to share her patient's events and behaviours.
context of outcomes
I see
how easy it could happen, with a close group of friends and/or a bit of wine
to become loose with one's tongue. Although no names where given, I
sat there thinking any one of us could somehow be connected to the
patients/people being described. This reinforced the need to have a
peer in my profession, or a relative on the other side of Canada to
confide with, as need be. Educators are accountable for their
conduct, while on duty as well as off duty, where that conduct has an
effect on the education system. I remain a teacher day and night as my conduct always has an effect on the education system.
