Welcome to Dawn Wright's professional e-portfolio.
My name is Dawn Wright. Welcome to my ePortfolio. My passion in life is to be a life long learner. Learning brings personal strength, confidence, opportunities, and comes in many forms. I want to share my learning passion with my students by engaging them with a strong curiosity and desire for learning. Please follow me, through this website, as I pursue my journey as a certified Educator in BC. This website includes some information about myself, my frame of reference (educational philosophy), eight Teacher Regulation Branch (http://www.bcteacherregulation.ca/) standards, and the British Columbia Teachers Federation Code of Ethics (BCTF) http://www.bctf.ca/.
My Educational Metaphor
I chose baking for my metaphor. Baking for me is an art with enormous variety and options, and very rewarding. Baking requires following a recipe of measurements and ingredients. Some of these ingredients are staples, the foundation of the recipe which always remain the same. Once a recipe has been tried, we alter the recipe to meet our needs. We experiment with different ingredients and measurements such as less sugar or more quinoa, all while maintaining the staple ingredients. We test our newly altered recipe. I may like it better, but another person may think it's not very good at all. It is impossible to create one recipe that meets the needs of all taste buds. I am constantly adapting my recipe (lessons) for the audience (student) in front of me.
As an educator I see the importance of a strong foundation, the staple ingredients, to build upon. My educational
foundation is a trusting and safe environment for each student. This staple cannot be changed to manifest consistent quality baked goods or students. Sampling with other ingredients is welcomed and recommended to meet the taste buds and needs of everyone. Every taste bud and every learner is different. I as an educator meet the needs of the individual taste buds or learning style of everyone. I reach out, alter, and find the proper recipe of what fits each student to want to learn more. I will guide the student to decide what their taste buds like best, or what learning style works best for them. With desirable baked goods we want to eat more. With my teaching, the student learns how to learn and becomes hungry for more knowledge.
Confidence in knowing how to learn will help the student define their self, and bravely to forge forward in life. The more ingredients they add the more chance for success and learning opportunities. I wish for my students to finish their school year as a more confident learner, independent thinker, and with a quest for more acquisition.
